Thieves in Newmarket have stolen a custom made bicycle worth over £8000.

The unique bike was taken from a garage in New Market at around 9:30 on Monday 26th March 2012.

The bike belonged to Newmarket Cycling and Triathlon Club member Michael Lowther.

“I am absolutely gutted as the bike was my pride and joy,” said the 40-year-old, who cycles in his free time away from his job as a firefighter.

“I had only brought it in October and it has only been used in one time trial. I had it all custom-made and race- ready for this season.

“If I replaced the bike like- for-like, you are looking at around £8,500,” he added.

Police understand that the bike was taken while Mrs Lowther was taking washing from the garage to the house.

“When my wife went back to the garage with a second load of washing for the tumble dryer she noticed it had been unplugged. It was then that she saw the bike had gone,” Michael Lowther told press.

“The whole incident has made my wife feel a bit uneasy as someone must have been watching her movements.”

Anyone with information on this incident has been asked to contact Suffolk Police on 101.
