Local Downham Market councillor Jenny Groom is known locally for her short cycling journeys through her local town, but she is now gearing up to take part in a marathon ride from London to Paris.

Groom will join 300 other cyclists in the 285 mile cycling event as they depart from Greenwich Park in central London.

She will have to cycle 80 miles per day to make it to the destination within the allocated time.

The councillor has already completed the event once before and raised an impressive £1600 for charity, however she is determined to give the ride another go this year.

“Last year I had a chest infection and a heavy bike and it was a real struggle but I enjoyed it so much I was determined to do it again,” she told local press.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Royal British Legion Battle Back Centre, an activity and action centre were injured soldiers are treated and rehabilitated.
