Bradley Wiggins has been awarded third place in the Tour de France 2009 after Lance Armstrong’s result was removed from the record books, the International Cycling Union have confirmed.
The UCI has stripped Lance Armstrong of all results from 1st August 1998, backing up a ruling made by the United States Anti-doping Agency.

The UCI confirmed last week that the cyclist’s run of seven successive Tour de France wins would not be reallocated, but those won in his ‘comeback’ years (2009, 2010) will.
A spokesperson said, “In 2009 the placing of Mr Armstrong will be reallocated. Bradley Wiggins is the third-placed rider for the Tour de France, 2009.”
