Orangisers say that the planned route is one of the toughest yet with the race ending on the the cobbled streets of Guildford.

The Olympic road races and time trials will also use similar roads in the Surrey area this summer.

Race director, Mick Bennett said: “The route is certainly our toughest yet.”

“We can’t finish in London this year because of the strain the Olympics and Paralympics are putting on the city,” he added.

“But the alternative is a brute of a day around the Surrey Hills, which has the potential to be pretty spectacular, followed by an atmospheric finish up Guildford High Street.”

The tourist information centre in Guildford said the Olympic games have already boosted inquiries about Surrey tourist attractions by 55% and said they anticipate that Tour of Britian would also have a positive effect.
