Man critically injured in cycling accident

A CYCLIST has suffered critical injuries after being knocked off his bike at a crossroads on Monday.

The 55-year-old was injured as he cycled through Castleside when a blue Saab 93 pulled out and collided with him.

The 55-year-old was injured as he cycled through Castleside when a blue Saab 93 pulled out and collided with him.

The injured man, from Pelton, near was cycling down the A68 Rowley Bank through the village, heading towards Allensford, at about 12.30pm.

After the incident he was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle and his condition is described as critical but stable.

The 50 year old driver of the car was uninjured, along with his 3 passengers.

Police closed the road while both vehicles were recovered from the scene and collision investigators carried out initial enquiries.

Any witnesses to the accident are asked to contact the collision investigation unit at Durham Constabulary.
