Children from Lincoln have saved their parents thousands of pounds in petrol costs by cycling instead of getting a lift to school.
It is estimated that children have cycled a combined total of almost 1million miles this week, saving their parents £368,000 in fuel bills.
The event was part of Sustran’s ‘Big Pedal’, which is the countries largest school cycling competition.
Organisers say that if this level of cycling was maintained every day, millions could be saved on petrol over the year.
Matt Easter, Spokesperson for Sunstran said: “Rising prices and looming fuel shortages mean that families across the country are looking for ways to cut back on petrol costs.
“The Big Pedal shows just how easy it is to leave the car at home and use two wheels for short journeys like the school run
