Delivery Driver Jailed for Killing Cyclist

A delivery driver who caused a fatal accident with a cyclists has been ordered to serve 12 months in prison.

51 year old driver Paul Luker, drove in to the back of RAF man Tomas Barrett on a busy part of the A40 last year.

51 year old driver Paul Luker, drove in to the back of RAF man Tomas Barrett on a busy part of the A40 last year.

The driver was sentenced to a 12 month driving band and has been ordered to work 100hrs community service over a 12 month period.

Harrow Crown Court heard from the pilot’s family of their devastating loss. 

“Not having Tomas anymore has been a complete loss to me. I feel as if my life has been turned upside down and I don’t have any direction,” said Barrett’s wife.

Farther of the cyclists also added that Tomas was, “A very special light has gone out in all our lives and it can never be rekindled.”

Luker was found guilty for causing death by dangerous driving and told the court that he did not expect to see a cyclist on that stretch of road.
