An accident which occurred on a busy road between Torquay and Teignmouth has left a cyclist with serious head injuries.
The accident happened just after 8 am during a busy rush hour period and is said to have occurred when the cyclist collided with a Ford Transit van. The local man, who is thought to be in his 40s, was wearing a helmet but the impact was so great that he still sustained trauma to his head and neck.
Emergency services were called to the scene and, due to the nature of the injuries, paramedics treated the cyclist on the roadside for over an hour. Once in a stable condition, the injured man was then rushed to the local trauma unit for further treatment. Police are appealing for witnesses to confirm details of the accident.
