Train operator, East Coast Main Line has applied for more bike storage space to cope with the high demand. They also want to install extra security measures to ensure riders can leave them there in confidence.
The new proposal will see 12 cycle stands introduced next to the stations tea room entrance and a further 24 stands on a disused platform to the west of the station.
Lockers for folding bicycles and additional CCTV cameras have also been included in the proposal.
The hope is that more people will choose to travel to the station using bikes, cutting congestion and pollution and promoting healthy living.
The proposal has been put to the City of York Council and is currently under review.
