Mark Cavendish Suprised by BBC Sports Personality Nomination

Mark Cavendish has expressed his surprise and delight at being nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The Manxman who won the Tour De France green jersey and the road World Championship this year rode to a sell out crowd of 4000 this weekend when he returned to the National Velodrome in Manchester.

“Who’d have thought cycling would be mainstream a few years ago? A cyclist who hadn’t won the Olympics would be in the running for Sports Personality,” said the cyclists.

“Even just talking about it just shows how big cycling is now.”
