Cycling team, Katusha have dropped leading cyclist Alexandr Kolobnev who is currently facing an uncertain career after failing a dope test, the Russian team confirmed this week.
Kolobnev was fined over $1500 and given a warning from the Russian Cycling Federation after he tested positive for the banned substance diuretic hydrochlorothiazide while taking part in the Tour De France this year.
“Kolobnev’s contract had expired and the team’s management has decided not to extend it for another season,” a spokesperson for the team said.
Last week Katusha also confirmed that Russia’s Denis Menchov will join the team to become their new leading cyclist.
