A cycling campaign group from Cambridge have welcomed a new Police initiative to crack down on cyclists riding without lights.
A cycling campaign group from Cambridge have welcomed a new Police initiative to crack down on cyclists riding without lights.
In the first 4 hours, more than 12 cyclists were ‘pulled over’ for riding without lights, or jumping traffic lights when they were showing red.
Each were given a £30 fine.
A spokesperson for the force said, “Police will continue to target people who ride with no lights because it is for their own safety and we know the public are concerned too.
“Having the right safety equipment is important for the cyclist and for other road users who need to be able to see them. I would urge all cyclists to get a set of lights – they are cheaper than a fixed penalty notice.”
