A cyclist has been awarded £4million in compensation after an accident with a car left him paralysed.
Tennis Coach and enthusiastic cyclist Patrice Gougam was hit by a Land Rover; the driver of which turned out to have severe eyesight problems.
Gougam was hit back in 2009 and the driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the scene.
The cyclist was left with devastating head injuries, was in a coma for 3 weeks and required a total of 21 weeks hospital care.
He is now wheelchair bound and has to be fed through a tube.
The 66-year-old driver of the vehicle admitted to dangerous driving and failing to notify the DVLA of his eye condition.
He was sentenced to eight months in jail and banned from driving for three years.
The victims solicitors made the following statement on behalf of Mrs Gougam: “Mrs Gougam dearly wishes other motorists to be more aware and patient of cyclists on London’s busy roads, so as to reduce the increasing number of tragic stories covering both fatalities and life-changing injuries sustained by cyclists.”
