Emergency services received calls in the early hours of the morning at approximately 4.21 am about an accident involving a female cyclist and another vehicle.
Police are piecing together witness reports and CCTV footage to establish how the accident happened and have closed off the road until accident investigators have collected all the evidence they need.
The young women, believed to be 20 years old, sustained a head injury and paramedics and ambulance crews attended to her before taking her to hospital for further treatment. She is thought to be in a critical condition. The driver is not thought to have sustained injury.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said:
‘Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended and found the 20-year-old female cyclist with a head injury. She was taken to an east London hospital where she remains with injuries thought to be life threatening or life changing.
‘The diver stopped at the scene. They were not arrested and are assisting police with their enquiries.
‘An investigation is ongoing.’
