A cyclist has been fatally injured after an accident involving a coach.

The man, who was believed to have been aged in his 60s, was near to the Wormwood Street and Bishopsgate junction when the accident happened.

Emergency services treated him at the scene but he was pronounced dead before he could be transported to hospital.

A spokesperson for the London Police also confirmed that a man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The incident has happened at a time when celebrities and MPs across the country have increased pressure on the Government to improve safety for cyclists in the capital.

The incident marks the first cycling related death of 2012 in London, however 10 other people have been killed across the UK.

Further investigations are now taking place.
