British cyclists to miss Olympic 2012 opening ceremony

The Great British cycling team will miss the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic games, it has been revealed.

The cyclists will be amongst 150 British athletes who will miss the event to rest ahead of their performances.

The ceremony which lasts several hours and finishes near to 11pm has been the subject of much controversy, as many trainers and athletes feel that its detrimental to performance.

This means the likes of Mark Cavendish and Chris Hoy will not appear at the event.

The 2012 Olympic games take place in London between 27 July-12 Aug.
