Pressure is mounting on Mayor of London Boris Johnson after another cyclist was killed on London’s roads last Friday.
A 22 year old girl was involved in a fatal accident with a lorry on the junction between Abby Street and Tower Bridge – an infamous cycling accident black-spot.
Campaigners are urging the Johnson to adopt a ‘Vision Zero’ policy which has been running successfully in Sweden.
A spokesperson from the London Cycling Campaign (LCC) said: “Tower Bridge Road is a busy road.
“When you ask people to share space with fast-moving vehicles this is what happens. The question is why are there so many cycling casualties full-stop. Sweden has a zero-fatality policy, this is where London should be heading. The number of deaths is unacceptable.”
The LCC are currently running a large scale investigation of all the roads in London to see how they can be improved for cyclists.
