Cyclist seriously injured on pedestrian crossing

A cyclist has been rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries following a collision with a car at a Pelican crossing.

The incident happened last Tuesday at 6pm when a 22 year old, male driver, of a silver Peugeot 207 collided with the cyclist as the rider attempted to cross the road.

Police believe that the cyclist was hit from the nearside in the outside lane of the carriageway but are still seeking further witnesses to confirm the details of the accident.

The injured man is 23 years old, from Armthorpe, and is being treated at the Northern General Hospital for a ‘life-threatening’ head injury.  The driver of the Peugeot is not thought to be injured.
