A cyclist from Bournemouth has been ordered to pay £300 in compensation after hitting an elderly woman while riding on the pavement.
The 37-year-old pleaded guilty to dangerous cycling at the Bournemouth Magistrates Court.
The woman, aged 71, described her injuries: “As a result of the collision I sustained serious hip injuries and had to stay in hospital for five weeks. I require a further operation in the New Year.”
She also explained she was happy with the outcome and praised the work of the local press: “I’m glad the man handed himself in to the police.
“I’m happy with the outcome at court. I would also like to thank the media, particularly the Daily Echo for highlighting the issue.”
The cyclist pleaded guilty on 12th December 2011 and was ordered to pay the compensation for the damages.
