Cyclist knocked off bike on busy A road

Emergency services were called to an accident involving a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a 49 year old cyclist.  Police and ambulance crews attended promptly at approximately 10.30pm and closed the roads whilst accident investigations took place and paramedics attended to the injured cyclist.

The man, believed to be in his late forties, was knocked off his bike on a busy A road and, according to witnesses, both vehicles were travelling in the same direction at the time of the accident.  The cyclist is reported to have been seriously injured and is currently in the critical care unit at hospital.

He sustained serious head injuries which may be life changing.  The driver of the Vauxhall is not injured.  Police are appealing to witnesses to the accident to provide information of what happened in the lead up to the accident.
