Cyclist knocked down in cycle accident on a roundabout

A cyclist, believed to be in his 60’s or 70’s was knocked off his bike by a car, as he cycled around a roundabout at approximately 7.30 am. Emergency services attended promptly including an air ambulance due to the serious nature of the cyclists injuries.

Local staff from a nearby superstore came to help the cyclist and support him until Police and ambulance crews arrived.  The driver of the other vehicle, a Ford Fusion car, was shaken but not injured.

One eye witness said: “The cyclist was going over the roundabout when the accident happened.

“I think he was in his 60’s or 70’s.

“He was lucky there were people nearby as we called for help within seconds and saved a lot of time.

“I just hope he will be okay.”

He was taken to County Hospital and his condition is not known at this time.  Police are appealing for any witness to the accident or events leading up to the incident to come forward to help with their enquiries.  They are also unaware of the cyclist’s identity at this time.
