A cyclist was hit by a vehicle at approximately 6.35 pm during the busy rush hour period on an A road. Police are appealing for witness to events leading up the accident and also the collision itself.
Emergency services responded quickly to 999 calls including two police cars and a road ambulance who provided support and treatment to the injured cyclist. They were then rushed to the nearest trauma unit at a nearby hospital. The extent of the injuries sustained by the cyclist is not yet known but they are thought to be in a stable condition.
A spokesperson for the police said it was very early into their investigations, but it was thought the cyclist had sustained serious injuries.
Roads were closed for several hours whilst crash investigations took place and traffic was diverted away from the road traffic accident site.
