Emergency services were called to the scene of an accident after they received calls that a cyclist had been badly hurt after being knocked off their bicycle at a busy junction.
The accident happened during rush hour in a city suburb and witnesses report that the cyclist appeared to have sustained a serious head injury and was unconscious.
Emergency services attended promptly and roads were shut for several hours whilst accident investigators assessed the roads and allowed an air ambulance to land and take the cyclist to the nearest trauma unit hospital.
The cyclist was a man but his condition is not yet known. The car driver is not thought to be hurt. Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward with any information relating to the road traffic accident.
The roads are particularly dangerous this time of year with poor road conditions, ice, fog and debris plus poor light and car drivers rushing around during the Christmas period. Whilst we don’t know what cause this accident, the risks out there for two wheeled travellers increase in the winter months.
