A cycling safety campaigner is currently fighting for her life after a freak cycling accident.
Lindsi Blemel (right), chairwoman of Southampton Cycling Campaign hit a 16ft long piece of PVC plastic and was thrown from her bike, hitting her unprotected head on the concrete floor.
The plastic had been left across a cycle path.
Blemel, 56, was given first aid attention at the scene and was then rushed to hospital.
Her current condition has been described as ‘critical but stable.’
Police who have been investigating the accident reported that Mrs Blemel’s helmet had been stolen a few days previously and she had not yet got around to replacing it.
They are now calling for any eye-witnesses to come forward to help the investigation.
