Cyclist knocked off bike by VW Transporter in collision

A cycle collision occurred between a 59-year-old cyclist and a VW Transporter van which resulted in the cyclist being taken to hospital via land ambulance.

Emergency services responded to calls from the general public at approximately 3.45pm on the Saturday about reports of a road traffic accident.  The cyclist received treatment on the roadside and was then taken urgently to the nearest hospital for further treatment.

The cyclist remains in hospital where her condition is reported to be serious.  The driver of the van is shaken but unhurt.  Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to help piece together how the accident happened.  Roads were closed for several hours whilst road accident investigations were carried out.
