A man is calling for clearer instructions for cyclists on a busy Barnstaple road, after he was involved in a collision last week.

He was pulling out of his driveway onto the main road when he was involved in a collision with a cyclist. The man said: “I was waiting to pull out of my drive to join the traffic going up the hill towards Bickington Road.

“Someone flashed me out, and so I pulled out onto the road just as a young man on a bike crashed into the side of my car.”

The cyclist went over the handlebars of his bike, but fortunately was not seriously injured in the collision.

“He was cycling down the hill in the cycle lane facing the oncoming traffic, I didn’t think to look to my left as the cyclist shouldn’t have been there.”

Cyclists going in the wrong direction down Sticklepath Hill is an ongoing problem.

The driver is calling on Devon County Council to make it clearer to cyclists that they should only be cycling up and down the hill on the correct sides of the road.
