Mark Cavendish has completed this year’s biggest cycling transfer, announcing that he has joined the Sky cycling team.

The move, which was leaked back in June looked like a done deal, but last-minute hiccups involving image copyright and secondary sponsorship deals almost prevented one of the biggest news stories that the cycling world has seen this year.

Team principal Dave Brailsford said: “Mark is the greatest sprinter of his generation and is well on his way to becoming the greatest of all time.

“He is a rider of exceptional talent, who has proved his pedigree at the very highest level of our sport.”

Cavendish joins Sky after 5 years of service with American team HTC.
