Birmingham’s brand new BMX track is to host the sport’s European championships, the BBC has reported. The state of the art track was completed just a week ago and was a joint project between the local council and British Cycling. Two rounds of the European Cycling Union will now take place on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th of June 2011. The track was opened on June 9th 2011 by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham and three times Union Cycliste Internationale champion Shanaze Reade. Reade commented the the track was the “kind of place that could help us find the next generation of BMX superstars from the UK”.
