In the photographs Hoecke’s fellow team-mates are dragging him out of a nightclub with Hoeche barley able to keep his eyes open. His top is also covered in drink.
The 20-year-old finished 15th in the omnium and rode in Belgium’s ninety-place finished in the team persuit.
Team-mates came to his defence and said he was letting off steam.
“I made a big mistake,” he told a Belgian newspaper. “I’m happy my parents didn’t tell me off. They understand that I needed this.”
