Globally-known film star Joseph Gordon-Levitt has suffered personal injuries after acting out a cycling scene for a new film he is set to star in.

The actor plays a New York bike messenger in his latest fast-paced film and injured himself when a stunt involving a taxi went awry.

He was left with 31 stitches and a gash to his arm as a result of the accident but explained that had it not been for his reflexes, the accident, “could have been a lot worse.”

“When it first happened I was so flooded with adrenaline that it didn’t hurt at all. The scar is here on my arm,” he told TalkRadio.com

“I got my elbows up; all the boxing training came in handy. Otherwise who knows what would’ve happened to my face. It could have been a lot worse because windshields are far more forgiving than trunks or asphalt bumpers. The whole thing was a perfect storm of factors where so many things all went wrong at the same time.”

The director of the film, David Koepp revealed later that he managed to catch the whole cycling accident on film and now plans to use it at the end of the movie to show the dangers of urban riding.
