British Cycling Team Choose Surrey For London 2012 Training

Great Britain’s road cycling team have joined the USA, Canada and Australia in choosing Surrey as their training base for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Despite the starting in Mall Street, central London, the majority of the road race will take place in Surrey.

Mark Cavendish is favorite to win the event and secure the first Gold Medal for team GB, having won the test event which took place in July.

Denise Saliagopoulos, head of community services for the 2012 games said, “These athletes demand world class training facilities and superb accommodation to ensure they are at their physical and mental peak for the 2012 Games. With this in mind, it is no surprise so many teams have chosen Surrey as their base.”

Surrey Council say a total 0f 16 Olympic teams have signed up to train in the County with more expected to follow in the run up to the games.
